Guadeloupe and Grenada through to Digicel Cup Finals

Tuesday, October 26th 2010 – Grenada National Stadium, Grenada: Guadeloupe finished their qualification campaign holding onto their 100% record and in the process ensuring that they enter the Digicel Cup Finals in Martinique having bested last Digicel Cup tournament's runners up in a comprehensive fashion and in front of Grenada's home fans.

The French could not have gotten off  to a better start and as they did against St Kitts, scored in the first few minutes of play.

Johnny Tacita, eager to prove his worth after failing to make a regular first team berth in the opening two games, showed coach Salnot just what he could do when he powerfully headed home an inch perfect cross from Hanany on the right with only 3 minutes on the clock.

CARICOM SG expresses condolences

Caribbean Community (CARICOM) Secretary General, Edwin Carrington, has expressed "deep sadness" at the death of Barbados prime minister David Thompson, who died Saturday after a prolonged battle with pancreatic cancer.

Carrington, who is here attending the activities marking Caribbean Week of Agriculture (CWA) and the meeting of the CARICOM Council for Trade and Economic Development (COTED) said "we  had all been generally aware of the serious nature of his affliction with pancreatic cancer but had been hoping and praying that somehow he would have overcome this challenge.

Friday October 22nd 2010 – Kingston, Jamaica: Following an impressive run in stage one of the Digicel Caribbean Cup this year, many of the teams have raised their position in the official FIFA World rankings which were updated on October 20th.

 

The six teams – Guyana, Suriname, St. Vincent & the Grenadines, St. Kitts & Nevis, Puerto Rico and Dominica – who are now through to stage two of the Digicel Caribbean Cup have all improved their standing in both the FIFA and CONCACAF official world rankings. Sports Minister congratulates Windwards’ selectees

ST GEORGE'S, Grenada, October 20, 2010 – The Ministry of Youth Empowerment and Sports congratulates the four Windward Islands players, including two Grenadians, selected to represent the West Indies in the upcoming Digicel Series against Sri Lanka.

The West Indies Cricket Board (WICB) on Sunday announced the appointment of St Lucia and Windward Islands all rounder Darren Sammy as the new captain of the West Indies team for the Sri Lanka tour, replacing Chris Gayle of Jamaica.

Sammy is the first Windward Islands player to be appointed captain of the West Indies cricket team.
