Road work brings relief for residents

St. George's, August 30, 2010 – Residents of the Carenage, after many complaints of a blocked and overflowing drain in the community,
have received some relief.

The complaints were made to Works Minister Joseph Gilbert and Town of St. George MP, Foreign Minister Peter David, who both had visited the
site for a firsthand look and had promised action. The drain is near the residential area known as the Bungalow.

Last Sunday a Ministry of Works crew of five, headed by Elvis Noel, was sent to the area to try and unblock the drain and have water flowing freely through

Looking out for country’s best interest

St. George's, August 29, 2010 (GIS) – Grenada will know shortly whether a US100 million loan from the Export-Import Bank of China would be made available for the proposed Four Seasons' project in the south of the island.

Finance Minister, Hon. Nazim Burke, anticipates a decision from Eximbank within a month or two. The Minister, speaking at a news conference on August 27, described the project as "viable.''

"We're satisfied that, on the basis of the terms and conditions that are being offered, it is a viable project,'' said the Finance Minister, who at the time was also Acting Prime Minister.

He said all documentation has been submitted to Eximbank, which is evaluating the loan application.

Opposition Leader to Meet With Diaspora in the United States and Canada

Grenada, August 27, 2010: Leader of Her Majesty's Opposition, The Hon. Dr. Keith C. Mitchell, left the island on Wednesday August 25, 2010 to visit the United States and Canada for a series of meetings with the Diaspora community.

Doctor Mitchell is expected to update Grenadians and friends of Grenada residing in those communities on the present situation in Grenada under the Tillman Thomas administration. He will also provide information to them relating to the hardships presently encountered by the people of the Grenada.

There will also be a number of fundraising activities which will be held in honor of the Opposition Leader.

Material assistance to students

St. George's, August 27, 2010 – Dozens of teenagers heading to secondary school in September have been given material assistance from Hon. Peter David and members of his Town of St. George constituency.

At separate events on August 25, Mr. David congratulated the students and encouraged parents to support their children in their educational pursuits.

In one event, he presented students with vouchers for shopping for school supplies. The MP and Minister of Foreign Affairs urged parents to allow their children to remain in school to finish their education.

Talking diplomatic ties and cooperation with Morocco

St. George's, August 11, 2010 (GIS) – A Moroccan delegation headed by the country's Foreign Minister is wrapping up two days of talks with Grenadian government officials on assistance to Grenada in areas such as fisheries and agro-industries.

Foreign Minister Taib Fassi Fihri and his team, including Moroccan business officials, arrived in Grenada Tuesday, July 10. They have been meeting with Prime Minister Hon. We the members of the constituency of St. George South East are very concerned and have great difficulty in understanding why after two weeks we are yet to hear anything from the mainstream media with the exception of CC6 News Network and MTV about the verdict handed down by the three Appellate Judges in New York in the lawsuit against Gregory Bowen and the state of Grenada brought by Jack Grynberg alleging bribery and demanding US$500 million in compensation from the state for terminating his oil and gas exploration agreement.

Montreal Diaspora assists Hermitage resident

St. George's, August 3, 2010 – Montreal-based friends of a Grenadian national who recently returned home are continuing to assist him to comfortably resettle in Grenada.

Noble "Souls'' Phillip, who lived 19 years in Montreal, suffered from glaucoma which resulted in him losing his sight. When he decided to return home, a fund-raising effort was undertaken on his behalf. It was spearheaded by the Grenada Islander Sports Club (GISC) and Grenada's Honourary Consul in Montreal, Leonard Wharwood, Jr. The effort netted approximately CAN$5,000.
