KEEPING TRANSPARENCY “CONTRACT’’ WITH GRENADIANS

St. George's, May 9, 2010 – The National Democratic Congress (NDC) is pleased with the ongoing demonstration of transparency, openness and good governance by our Party Leader and the Prime Minister of Grenada, Hon. Tillman Thomas.

Specifically, the NDC refers to the Prime Minister's recent instruction for the posting on the Government of Grenada website of the maritime treaty signed between Grenada and the Republic of Trinidad and Tobago.

Prime Minister Thomas, in issuing his instruction, said: "We have always made it abundantly clear that as part of our policy of openness and transparency that the treaty was going to be made public. Now that that the treaty has been signed and ratified, we are now free to do that.''

NDC Public Relations Officer, Sen. Arley Gill, has commended the Party's Leader and Prime Minister for keeping the contract he made with the Grenadian people on being honest and open with them.

"This is a leader in whom Grenadians can continue to put their trust,'' Sen. Gill said. "We have successfully negotiated a maritime treaty with Trinidad and Tobago, and Prime Minister Thomas is fully supportive of the series of briefings now being held across the nation to explain the details of treaty and to answer citizens' questions. These briefings are important and the National Democratic Congress is inviting all Grenadians to participate in them.''

The seven-page treaty was signed by Hon. Thomas and Hon. Patrick Manning, Prime Minister of Trinidad and Tobago, at an official ceremony on April 21 in Port of Spain.
