Wireless Internet now available at Tanteen Playground

St. George's, June 13 (2010) – A newly opened playing facility in St. George's has been equipped with wireless Internet.

The Tanteen Children's Playground, also known as "The Swing,'' was officially opened Sunday afternoon. The ceremony, which included live entertainment from LIME Commancheroes and Republic Bank Angel Harps, was attended by children and parents. Also present were Youth Empowerment and Sports Minister Patrick Simmons; Town of St. George MP Peter David; and officials of telecommunications' provider, LIME, which refurbished the playground at a cost of more than EC$120,000.

"This playground holds many nostalgic memories for me, growing up as a young boy on the swings.  Many of us long for the days when families met on Sunday afternoons and socialised with each other,'' said LIME Country Manager, Andrew Millett.

The LIME Manager said while the past was being honoured with the reopening of the playground, new features have also been added.

"We have added the benefits of modern technology by also equipping the playground with wireless Internet through our LIME Wi-Fi Hot Spot,'' Mr. Millett announced. "This new feature has added a completely new dimension to the playground and has made literally an access point to the information superhighway of the Internet.''

The presence of the wireless Internet on the playground is not only in the interest of young people but also adults, said Mr. Millett.

"Young students from the surrounding schools,'' he explained, "can now relax here during a free period  or after school and complete their assignment on their laptops. Busy parents can work on office deadlines while keeping a watchful eye on their families. Whether at school, at work or at play, this playground now offers something for everyone.''

The symbolic key to "The Swing'' by handed over by Mr. Millett to Sports Minister Simmons, who thanked LIME for its investment in making the facility once more useable for children's recreational activities.

Words of commendation and gratitude were also extended by MP David, who is also Minister of Foreign Affairs. As well, Young Malik Stroude thanked LIME, saying that children like him are delighted to have the playground and will continue to make full use of it.

Mr. Millett urged responsible use of the playground, promised ongoing LIME corporate citizen leadership in environment protection and other issues, and in continuing with partnership projects with government.

"We are pleased that the government gave us the opportunity to contribute to the community in this way and to partner with them to create a better place for our children and parents in this community,'' he said.

In a message to community members, Mr. Millett said: "This is your playground. Use it to its full potential. Cherish it as if it were in your own front yard. Preserve it for others who are still dreaming of a safe and clean place to run and play freely in years to come.''
