St. George's, July 20, 2010 – The LIME Tanteen Children's Playground – also known as "The Swing'' – is getting its first major cleanup since its official opening in June.
Members of the Carenage Organisation for Recreation and Entertainment (CORE) are planning to cleanup the playground on Sunday, July 25, starting 6 a.m.
The vision of CORE, an umbrella group of individuals and organisations, is to "build a positively vibrant community on the Carenage and surrounding areas for residents of all ages.'' It plans to encourage the "broadest volunteer participation possible in order to be successful.''
At a recent meeting at Marryshow House, CORE members decided to embark on the cleanup of "The Swing'' as one of its immediate community volunteer ventures. They are appealing for the support and involvement of local residents in Sunday's event.
Other proposed activities include a fundraising cake sale scheduled for July 31, a back-to-school initiative in September to assist children, and a "Community Fun Day'' on October 25.
As part of its long-term goal to effectively serve the community, CORE has designed a survey to collect basic demographic information, such as number of residents of the Carenage area and the age range of household members.
After years in disrepair, the Tanteen Children's Playground was refurbished at a cost of more than EC$120,000 by telecommunications' provider, LIME.
