St. George's, July 13, 2010 – Grenada's school-age children have been urged to use the current holiday period not just for fun, but also for learning.
The encouragement was given by Tourism Minister, Glynis Roberts, in recent addresses delivered at graduation ceremonies at South St. George Government School and Woburn Methodist School.
"Remember, learning never stops,'' said Mrs. Roberts, MP for St. George South. "Spend time not just playing, watching TV and sitting in front of your computers. But engage in productive activities such as reading and writing, learning new words and expanding your vocabulary.''
The Minister, a former student of South St. George Government, graduated from the school after passing the Common Entrance Examinations (CEE) in 1974.
Mrs. Roberts congratulated South St. George Government and Woburn Methodist on their performances in this year's CEE.
"For those who were not successful this time around, I urge you to keep working hard and never give up on your dreams of furthering your education at secondary school and also at university,'' MP Roberts told the students at South St. George Government.
At both South George and Woburn Methodist she appealed to the young people to set goals and remain focused.
"My message to you is the same message that I have given to students elsewhere,'' Mrs. Roberts said at Woburn Methodist. "I urge you to remain focus on your dreams and goals. Pursue your dreams and goals with diligence and passion. These things – diligence and passion – are necessary pre-conditions for achieving success in school, in life or in your future careers.''
She advised the students that as they "push hard to succeed, remember to keep God on your inside and by your side. Ask God to give you wisdom to be watchful, to be careful, and to avoid all conflicts and strife.''
