St George’s Grenada – Pakistan A took command of the Digicel Series with a thumping 71 run win over West Indies A in the Second Digicel One Day match at the Grenada National Stadium.
The visitors shot out Windies A for a paltry 101 in 31.4 overs as they chased a modest 172.
The Caribbean sidemoved from a stable position of 63 for 1 to 77 for 6 and then the last four wickets capitulated for 14 runs as the Windies lost 9 wickets for 38 runs. Zulfiqar Babar and Junaid Khan combined to wreak havoc for the Windies as the former ended with 4 for 22 while Khan took 3 for 20. Yasir Shah aided with two wickets for 5 runs from 3.4 overs.
Andre Fletcher made 30 (39 balls, 4×4) in front his home crowd while his Windward Islands teammate and fellow opener, St Lucian Johnson Charles made 21 from 26 balls with two boundaries. No other batsman reached double figures against the disciplined Pakistani attack.
In the first half of the day the Windies A bowlers – led by Guyanese leg spinner Devendra Bishoo – held the Pakistanis to a modest 172. Bishoo captured 4 for 35 from nine overs as he continued to cause problems for the visitors.
Ravi Rampaul took the first tow wickets then added the last to finish with 3 for 27 from 8.1 overs while there was a wicket apiece for Gavin Tonge (7-0-27-1) and Jonathan Carter (7-0-28-1).
Amer Sajjad top scored with a patient 43 from 64 balls even as he struck four boundaries while Umer Amin made 34 from 54 balls with a solitary boundary. The pair added 65 for the third wicket as they moved the score from 45 for 2 to 110 for three.
Pakistan also suffered from a collapse as they lost their last five wickets for 13 runs. In the end it did not matter much as the Windies A batting crumbled and barely managed to achieve triple figures.
The final Digicel One Day match is slated for Sunday November 14th at Progress Park, also in Grenada. The First Digicel One Day match ended in a tie. All four matches (two Digicel Twenty20s and two Digicel One Dayers) played thus far have been low scoring affairs as the batsmen on both sides have struggled to put together sustained partnerships.
