St John’s, Antigua – The West Indies Cricket Board announces that former West Indies cricketer and Windward Islands Captain Rawl Lewis has joined the WICB's Operations Department.
Lewis has been appointed Project Officer – Cricket Operations.
A Grenadian who played five Tests and 28 One Day Internationals, Lewis last appeared for the West Indies in 2009.
In his new role the 36 year old Lewis will give up mesmerizing regional batsmen with his leg spin bowling and focus on managing the logistics and operations for WICB regional tournaments and other cricket operational matters.
"I see this as a natural transition for me. After a long career for the Windward Islands on the field I am now in a position to contribute to the development of cricket from behind the scenes," Lewis said.
"My entire adult life has centered around playing cricket and I look forward with anticipation to this challenge in a new phase of my life," Lewis said.
"I plan on taking this opportunity to educate the players about the immense amount of work which goes on behind the scenes so they can be more appreciative of what it takes for cricket to be played," Lewis said.
"We're delighted to have Rawl join our team and I am confident that he will add value given his immense experience at all levels of regional cricket," said WICB Director of Cricket Tony Howard.
KJ Singh and Fawwaz Baksh, both Guyanese, have also joined the WICB as Project Officer – Scotiabank Kiddy Cricket and Project Officer – Youth Development respectively while Jamaican information technology specialist Kuwesi Steele is the new Project Officer – Ecommerce.
